Students in Grades 3–5 are welcome to participate in this Eucharistic ministry of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
The Art Club, for Grades 3–5, meets twice monthly to explore the works of great artists and to learn more in-depth mediums and techniques.
Our students are treated to school assemblies periodically throughout the year. These can be educational, related to holiday celebrations, or purely for entertainment. HSA may sponsor these programs.
Big Buddies/Little Buddies
In the Big Buddies/Little Buddies group, older students learn respect and responsibility while being a friend and guide to younger students. Each student in Kindergarten is paired up with a student from Grade 4 or 5.
Students in Grades 1–5 are eligible to become members of the children’s choir. Practices are usually held in the evenings.
Community and Faith Service Projects
Our students are encouraged to participate in community and faith service projects throughout the year. Projects have included collecting food for the needy; visiting preschools; making small crafts for home-bound members of the parish and community; collecting money for the Holy Childhood Mission; and bringing cheer to terminally ill patients through the Caring Kids Pen Pals program with Hospice.
Our students take field trips throughout the school year. Teachers choose the destination appropriate for each grade level and curriculum. Our Home and School Association (HSA) funds bus transportation, and parents are responsible for any additional costs. Parents may be asked if they can serve as chaperones.
Instrumental Music Lessons
Students in Grades 4 and 5 may take instrumental lessons once a week during the school year. There is a lesson fee, to be paid directly to the teacher, and instrument rental is the parent’s responsibility.
The Reading Club is for students in Grades 3–5 who love to read. It meets once a month after school.
No extracurricular team sports are offered through the schools at the elementary level in Mifflin County. Many Sacred Heart students actively participate in the county’s excellent youth sporting programs.
