In 1957, Sacred Heart of Jesus School graduated its first class of eighth graders. Since then, our alumni have remained close and involved in our school in many ways. In 1996, a group of dedicated individuals began the process of Development, formally launching an alumni database, Annual Fund Drive, the Heart Beat newsletter, and began to find new ways to continue this tradition of alumni involvement in Sacred Heart School. We have nearly 1,000 alumni identified on our database (we have lost touch with some of you over the last few years, however) that we keep in contact with regularly. Our mission is to connect alumni to SHS and to each other because the alumni of the school are an important part of SHS! They are in every sense the school’s history. When we strengthen this connection, we strengthen our entire community! Welcome to the Sacred Heart of Jesus School Alumni Page!
Investing in Sacred Heart School
Sacred Heart School has provided a quality, faith-filled Catholic education for more than 50 years, serving as the only Catholic school in the five surrounding counties, including Mifflin, Juniata, Huntingdon, Snyder, and Perry. In order to ensure this rich tradition for future generations, we have provided a number of ways for alumni, parents, parishioners, business leaders, and friends to invest in the future of Sacred Heart School. Click on Ways of Giving to SHS to learn more about these opportunities.
We have been so fortunate to assist two classes in celebrating reunions in the last year or so…and we would like to do more. A reunion for the Class of 1957 (50years!!!) is in the works, but let us know if you are interested in organizing a reunion for your class or group of classes, and we will be happy to assist you! Click on Class of 1961 Mini-reunion or Class of 1972 to see photos and information.
As mentioned above, we have nearly 1,000 alumni on our database, but most of the information is from the permanent records at the school and may not be up to date. Click HERE and let us know what you are up to! In the future, as we receive permission from all of you to print your data, we will let you know how to find your friends and classmates so you can keep in touch with each other as well!
Follow this link to find out what is coming up in the near future. You are welcome to attend any of these events.
We have been so blessed to have many alumni who have continued to invest in the future of SHS for many years. One group to thank is our Summa Cum Laude Club, recognized for 10 years of consecutive giving to the Annual Fund. Alumni in this club include: Delmer Guerrini (’64), Brian Heckert (’74), Michael Oldt (’68), Dennison Peiffer (’57), John Short (’61), Cecelia Slavish (’61), and Michael Stundon (’74). For many years, a generous alumnus ('67) and his wife have donated a full scholarship for a student to attend SHS. Many alumni purchased glass blocks for our Signature Glass Block project, including particularly generous donors John Hilton (’70), Rev. Sam Houser (’61), The Rhodes family(Ednilou, Mick, Luther, Chuck, Mary, Adelaide, Sylvan, Danny, and Stephen), and The Swyers family (Mary Grace, Michael, Genevieve, Dick, and John). Alumni who own local businesses have supported our More Than An Auction, which will this year mark 10 years of successful fund-raising, such as Frank Guerrini Vending, Smith Barney, William J. Rupp, Jr Custom Built Homes, Dennis Devita, MD, Angelo’s Hollow Inn, Beaver Springs Dragway, Downtown OIP and Grille and J P Edwards. And the list goes on. Our hope is that this year you will find a way to invest in the future of SHS, too!
